The Deeper Root Cause No One Talks About
We often think of mucus as a nuisance and a symptom that we just want gone. However, the truth is that excess mucus is our body’s intelligent response to something deeper. Mucus is one of the ways our body traps toxins to escort them out of the body but it's also a tool the body uses to lubricate and moisturize our inner tissues. Mucus isn't a bad thing but it can definitely be annoying if we have excess mucus that doesn't seem to shake off.
If you’ve tried cutting out pasteurized dairy and gluten from your diet, and your symptoms seem to continue, then it may be time to look beneath the surface. Mold or mycotoxin exposure can be one of the main contributing factors behind why your body has developed excess mucus.
🏠 Mold & Mycotoxins
Exposure to mold—whether from water-damaged buildings, old AC units, leaks from damaged sunroofs, or contaminated foods- can all trigger inflammation in the lungs, sinuses, brain, and central nervous system. It can cause neurological, digestive, reproductive, lymphatic, and cardiovascular problems, along with histamine intolerance, brain fog, shortness of breath, fungal overgrowth, wheezing, and even estrogen dominance, to name a few. Mycotoxins are fat-soluble toxins that build up in our fat cells over time. This means that these toxins have an affinity for fat, which is found in our brain, central nervous system (myelin sheath), fat around our organs, epidermal fat, etc. Fat-soluble antioxidants are required to assist in the detoxification of fat-soluble toxins, so think of raw animal products, which are replete in fat-soluble antioxidants, along with supplements like liposomal vitamin C and liposomal R-alpha lipoic acid. Both can be found by LivOn Labs, who make extremely effective products.
What you can do:
Hire a mold inspector to test your home, office, or car. Avoid using an ERMI test because you'll get more information from a mold inspector than with an ERMI for close to the same price. ERMI also won't hold up in court like the results of a certified mold inspector would.
Hire a mold hound to pinpoint the location of the water damage and mold. Remember, a lot of times, mold is odorless and a hound can detect what a mold test can't since mold tests will only determine if the spot swabbed has mold and not the surrounding areas. A hound's accuracy rate is a lot higher! Bill Whitestine is an ex-police officer who is the pioneer of mold hounds and travels across the US to provide this invaluable service to residential and commercial properties. He has a canine school on the West Coast of Florida and has trained various hounds in the US and Canada as well. I highly recommend him!
Consider getting an RGF Guardian Air. This is the best air purification unit anyone can get because it will clean the air in the whole house--including the air ducts, which a stand-alone air purification unit can't reach. This is the same company that serves Chipotle, Home Depot, and the US Military. Please check out my RGF highlight on IG to learn more.
Support your gallbladder, liver, and colon with castor oil packs, and other supplements that increase bile flow like milk thistle, turmeric, digestive bitters, and Quicksilver Scientific's Liver Sauce, which can be found on Fullscript for 15% off.
Use binders like fulvic/humic minerals, sacred clay, aquiterra clay, and activated charcoal when needed, being careful that it can also bind to one's stomach acid and minerals.
Support drainage pathways such as the liver, lymph, and colon via colonics, water enemas, and a rectal syringe to ensure you're not bioaccumulating fat-soluble toxins in the colon, which will get recirculated back into the liver and gallbladder. These toxins can then back up the lymphatic system and other bodily systems, which may lead to more inflammation and excess mucus.
Consume blackseed oil and proteolytic enzymes to support inflammation, biofilms, and the overall burden of the microbial community.
Focus on eating enzyme-rich, nutrient-dense foods like raw yogurt, raw butter, raw kefir, raw organs and glands, and raw meat. Do your best to eat animal-based foods with the least amount of cooking as possible to retain the array of nutrients provided in their optimal state--including the very important enzymes that allow all other nutrients to work to their maximized potential.
🦠 Regarding Biofilms & Parasites
Pathogens like parasites, candida, and even Lyme-related bacteria can create sticky biofilms—slimy shields that protect them from your immune system.
📝 Your body creates extra mucus in response, trying to trap or flush these invaders.
Some great things you can do to get started:
Gently break down biofilms with proteolytic enzymes (animal-based proteolytic enzymes are my favorite.) Allergy Research Group has a great product called Pancreas, and can be found on Fullscript. Build up your dosage slowly while you support your liver/gallbladder via castor oil packs and supplements that increase bile flow.
NAC, liposomal glutathione, and Lifewave's glutathione patches can also help break down biofilms and provide the liver and body with the much-needed antioxidant support it needs to detoxify itself.
Diatomaceous earth can break up biofilms while also shredding intestinal parasites. Remember, parasites, "bad" bacteria, and excess fungus follow toxicity, not the other way around.
Prioritize gut healing with daily bone broth (my recipe can be found here) and keeping your colon drainage pathway clear by getting colonics, using water enemas or rectal syringes when needed, and using a foot stool or squatty potty daily.
Rebounding can be beneficial when you support the colon, liver, and gallbladder at the same time.
🌿 Final Thoughts
Mycotoxin exposure is a highly overlooked and under-treated problem because most people and allopathic-minded health care professionals lack the education and awareness to even consider it as a root cause of various dis-eases. Thankfully, you're not in the dark about this and can help yourself overcome chronic health issues simply by knowing the root cause of your health issues.
Mucus is not the enemy—it’s a protector and messenger of the body's deeper need to be supported. When we listen to the signals our body is sending us instead of taking a medication to suppress the symptoms we're dealing with, then we can tackle the root cause of excess mucus and experience deeper healing that lasts.
Keep in mind that over-the-counter immunosuppressant drugs, although they can bring us some relief, will hinder the body's natural response to stress and detoxification. If we turn this mechanism off and don't support our body while it's trying to eliminate the toxins that have bioaccumulated in our tissues, then we just drive these toxins deeper into the cells, which may create more serious health issues later down the road.
